 Season: Building Confidence
March 20 at 2:26 PM

Hey

Hi, I’m Sandy from Florida. I’m happily married for almost 15 years, now in April. We have 2 kids, a 12 year old girl  and 10 year old boy. I virtual school them through a public magnetic school. I’m a SAHM. I’m also Christian.

I’m working on sleeping at a decent time, so far it’s not going good, yet but maybe some of you have some tips you can help me with.

Sleep is so needed.  So glad you are here Sandy.  As a former insomniac with sleep apnea, I know what living with out sleep is like. It helped me to decided on what time I WANTED to go to sleep or at lease BE in bed.   I have set up a bed time reminder on my phone ( it is 1 1/2 hours prior to bedtime.  The reminder bell means I need to log off social media and the computer.  I tidy up the house, review the calender for the next day, wash my face and brush my teeth.  I do a couple of yoga poses and then read, pray and write.  I list 1 thing that brought me joy, 1 thing I was gratful for and 1 thing I wish to acheive the next day.  If something is troubling me, I ask God to heal it while I sleep and to help me with my wish to achieve.  This has become a wonder spiritual practice for myself.  I hope you find what works for you.  God Bless

Hi Sandy from Florida. I am Kathy from Maryland. Since, I have the same issue, I have been doing some research, if you will. It's hard to make it a priority, I know. I am writing this to you at after 3:00 in the morning. Lol I am just getting over Pneumonia and I have slept so much from being sick that now my sleep schedule is totally turned around. Lol From what I have read and I am going to start this soon myself, you have to set an alarm for about an hour before your desired bedtime. You need to get your evening priorities done by that time and resign yourself to the fact that when the alarm goes off, you're done. At that time, you need to start doing anything you do to get ready for bed like changing into something cozy, brushing your teeth, using a face lotion... It's different for everyone, so just do what works for you. You should stop using any of your electronics like your phone, computer and TV during that wind down time. You can listen to some relaxing music, if you like and if you like to read, maybe read a book for a bit before you go to sleep (not on a Kindle). You even could light a scented candle during that time. If that doesn't appeal to you, you could try guided meditation. There are several apps that are free. Then, when it is your bedtime, turn off the lights and go to sleep. Once you have established your desired routine and bedtime, you have to be vigilant about sticking to it, so it becomes a habit. I am reading more and more about how not getting a good night's sleep is detrimental to so many things. Good luck. Please keep me posted. 😃😴 Happy sleeping!
